Situated on Vancouver Island in the Cowichan Region, Maple Bay is positioned across from the most well known Gulf Island, Saltspring Island.
Arts and Culture
Do not overlook the Maple Bay Marina, in Bird’s Eye Cove at the far southern end of Maple Bay, which features a chandlery, restaurant & pub.
Day outings in the location may contain a visit to the close by community of Genoa Bay, an assortment of waterfront residences with a full-service marina, art gallery as well as a terrific restaurant. You can also journey 10 minutes from Maple Bay to Duncan, the City of Totems, and home of the Quw’utsun’ Cultural & Conference Centre. Nearby Crofton provides ferry service to Vesuvius Bay on Saltspring Island where art galleries & craft galleries are abundant.

Outdoor Adventure
Snorkeling, cycling, boating, water-skiing, swimming and sportfishing - there are plenty of ocean pursuits to take pleasure in here…The beachfront in Maple Bay is a superb place to go swimming and beachcomb. You may also scuba dive in the safeguarded narrow inlet–the late Jacques Costeau considered it as one of his most liked diving locations. To fish for salmon, set out towards the Sansum Narrows just south of Maple Bay. Fantastic fishing places are Arbutus Point and Octupus Point.
Quamichan Lake, three km west of Maple Bay, also offers year-round fishing. Access to the well-liked lake is from Maple Bay Road
For wide ranging vistas, hike the paths in Maple Mountain Centennial Park. The park offers a broad selection of trails that range from 70 to 140 minutes in duration. For additional trekking, visit the 536-metre high Mount Tzouhalem (south of Maple Bay toward Genoa Bay) and enjoy wildflowers and wonderful vistas.
Getting to Maple Bay
Maple Bay is located in the Cowichan Valley, only a 10-minute drive from Duncan.
• By Vehicle: Take the Island Highway and watch for the signs!
• By Boat: The Maple Bay Marina, located off Samsun Narrows, offers protected moorage.
