Navigation lights indicate the size of the vehicle may it be an aircraft, water vessel, or spacecraft. These lights are very important especially at night so that the vehicles can see each other. The angle where the vehicles are seen, the travel direction as well as the size are specified by the lights.
Navigation lights do have systems that are installed in vehicles such as airplanes or ships. These systems have right-of-way lights and strobe lights. The right-of-way lights have red and green lights. The red light is located on the left or port side while the green light is located on the right or starboard side. When a spacecraft or a ship crosses the path of another, either the red and green light will determine who has the right-of-way. If the pilot sees a red light on his path, then the approaching vehicle has the right of way and he or she is required to stay away to avoid collision. On the contrary, a green light signals that the approaching vehicle has no right of way.
Meanwhile, strobe lights spark a high–intensity burst of white light so that each pilot of the vehicles traveling can see each other especially on the places where there is low visibility. The most common navigation lights are found in aviation and marine vehicles since they travel in a different environment. Similar placement of navigation lights is done for both the mediums. Usually, under the constitution, these lights are required to be installed.
